In Venice, where many great French composers stayed, especially in the nineteenth century – and notably thanks to the Prix de Rome – this centre aims to contribute to the rediscovery of a whole section of the French musical heritage of the years 1780 to 1920 that has been unjustly neglected.

A Centre devoted to French music of the Romantic period

The mission of the Palazzetto Bru Zane – Centre de musique romantique française is to study, publish and promote the French Romantic repertoire (1780-1920). It is above all a centre for musicological research, aiming to meet the hitherto unsatisfied needs of artists and specialists interested in this repertoire and to be the springboard for concerts in co-production.
Aiming to bring together all who are interested in this music, the Palazzetto Bru Zane – Centre de musique romantique française works in partnership with institutions in Europe, Asia and America for the dissemination of the French repertoire.
The musicological work, carried out in collaboration with conservatoires, universities and research centres, leads to symposia, digitising campaigns, the cataloguing of musical collections, and so on. Rare scores are published, along with theoretical works, correspondence and memoirs, with the aim of reviving and enabling a better understanding of the Romantic period, and bringing to light composers and works that have been unjustly forgotten.
Each season concerts and other events are organised in Venice. In connection with these, and with the aim of enabling a wider audience to discover French Romantic music, these works are also performed at many concerts organised in France, elsewhere in Europe, and in Asia.
Finally, the Palazzetto Bru Zane — Centre de musique romantique française works with various record labels and encourages through its support the recording of rare works from the French Romantic repertoire.

Concert Spirituel

Supporting Hervé Niquet and baroque music

Drs Jean and Nicole Bru gave their unfailing support to Le Concert Spirituel from the moment it was formed in 1987 by the composer and conductor Hervé Niquet. Nicole Bru perpetuates the foundation’s commitment to the revival of forgotten masterpieces of French Baroque. Le Concert Spirituel is now a reference, both in France and internationally, for the performance of Baroque music on early instruments.
